Skiing is one of the most popular sports in the world. Like any other outdoor sports, skiing needs a fit body and lot of energy. Narrower the center of the ski, greater it is for taking turns on the snow and controlling pressure on them.

Cross country ski
Cross country skis are very light and very narrow. Only the toe part of the boots is attached to the ski bindings. The technique used in these skis is the same as skating.

Backcountry ski
These skis are used on the untracked, unbroken snow. They are much wider and are designed to handle sturdy conditions. These models are used for fighting in extreme winter by the military.  The bindings are fitted by cables for a better grip on the ski and for easier extraction of feet if stuck in the snow.
